The Story of Hades Empty The Story of Hades

Post  Jess Mon Jan 03, 2011 1:29 pm

A story that has been passed on from generation to generation, from planet to planet - the story of Hades, and how this God of Death fell from Olympus to the fiery underground labyrinth of Hell, which became his domain.

Out of all the Gods in Olympus, Hades seemed to stand out the most. He took the souls of the dying, instead of making, or preserving life, as the other Gods seemed to do. He seemed to become bitter of this, shunning the company of other Gods and argueing with them in meetings whenever possible.

The other Gods became weary of this pettiness, and asked him politely to at least put forward constructive suggestions, instead of making their already stressful meetings worse. However Hades disrespected them all on every occasion. After many years of thinking his power worthless against the others, he had discovered a new freedom - the freedom of not having to take orders. With so many Gods resising in Olympus, it was easy to feel like a willing sheep following their will. Now, he wanted to be different.

He realised his power marked him out - he was unique. His want of freedom turned to a need and at one meeting of the Gods, he made it his last as an Olympus God. Standing, he announced casually, calmly, that he was leaving their ranks and had already created a dark domain to suit his preferences, in the Nexus. (The Nexus being, a different realm - where he can look into, and reach into, the realm of the planets, but will not be found. Call it the realm between life and death, where the God of Death is the gates through)

The Gods panicked; no one had left their ranks before. They quickly propositioned an agreement, a contract, for him to sign - if he did not mess with life, and cause early deaths using his Godly powers - then they would leave him alone. In return, they were not allowed to mess with death - such as creating Immortals, or bringing back a human once Hades had took their soul. As both sides signed the contract, this became the way of life.

Hades dropped the title God of Death and allowed humans over the centuries to call him what they liked - Death, Satan, even the Devil. Although not evil, he took it as part of the job. No human wanted death, and hardly any of them let them take their soul at their time nicely.

However...nearly a millenia later, Hades created his underlings - small demons, that went out into the world and kept an eye out for him, reported back any news of the other realm. Hades only created them because he was lonely, bored with his own voice over the million years that had past. Every hundred years he had a meeting with the Gods of Olympus, but only out of politeness. There was nothing changed, and no conversation, and Hades did not count it as a socialable meet. Other than those meetings, he had no contact with not just Gods, but any intelligent being except maybe a human seconds from death. So, he created his own race, which had small magical ability and were about to withstand high temperatures, and see in the darkness. A few of them, could see through the lies of humans and other species that had developed over the millienia that Hades had been absent from.

These demons told Hades many things; the new planets, species. However, they also told him of other things - Immortals, and stories of people being brought back to life.

Furious, Hades called upon the Gods to explain themselves. No reply came. Incensed now, he checked on his copy of the contract; locked away for a millenia. Went he opened the small safe he kept it in, he nearly choked in shock. The contract looked damaged, and the signatures of the other Gods were fading. This meant that the contract had been broken. More than once.

Hades called up his demons, and told them all that it was time they demanded respect from the other realm. They would learn of their might, and their anger, at being cheated all these years. The Gods had broken their side of the contract - so unless the species sides with Hades, he would too.

But he was not stupid enough to wander out of his realm so easily. He asked his demon followers to bring him one of the legends of old - Pandora's Box. A well-kept secret now legend, he had kept it hidden for so many years. Now, time to open it...
